Alcohol and chemistry

I am a retired scientist and have had to study chemistry although not specializing in that field. To a chemist, alcohol can be just described with a general chemical formula C_nH_2n+1OH. A chemist will also divide alcohol into classes, primary alcohol, secondary alcohol and tertiary alcohol. Alcohol can have many beneficial uses. In medical practices as an alcohol rub, in industries as solvent and fuel and even raw materials to manufacture other substances.

Alcohol as a beverage, health and social problems

It is also used as a beverage, but here, we are only concerned with one type of alcohol - ethanol or grain alcohol and often just referred to as alcohol. One you never drink is methanol or wood alcohol. Drinking methanol can cause you to go blind. Ethanol is an intoxicating beverage. One can get drunk on alcohol. A person's behavior becomes unpredictable when drunk. Just recently, BBC news have a report of teenage drinking.

Alcohol addiction

Worst is alcohol addiction or alcoholism. A person is said to be an alcohol addict when he or she continues to drink despite health and negative social and family problems.

Drug rehabilitation and alcohol rehabilitation

When a person become addicted to drugs, to get rid of the harmful addiction, he or she will have to go through drug rehab. It is similar with alcohol addiction. If an alcohol addict wants to rid of his problem, he or she too will need to undergo alcohol rehab. On the other hand alcohol detox or alcohol detoxification treats the physical effects of prolonged use of alcohol, but does not address the problem of alcohol addiction or alcoholism. I think it is best the two goes together hand-in-hand to treat people having problems with excessive alcohol drinking.

I have gone for consultation with conventional or medical doctors many times, especially as costs for consultation with conventional or medical doctors are covered by the pension department of my government. There is a section to deal with women and drug addiction. At this website, they use forward-looking experiential therapy and a compassionate approach to recovery (natural remedies) rather than depending on more drugs to combat prescription drug addition.

Women addicted to prescription drugs often do not feel comfortable in men dominated prescription drug recovery center. Women, more than men, needs female oriented treatment approach and would probably be more comfortable with women orientated drug addiction recovery
