How I beat constipation naturally

I used to suffer from constipation. I used to go for days without a bowel movement, then had to really struggle and strain for my next bowel movement resulting in hard stool (feces). Then may follow increasingly loose stool. Then the next cycle repeats again - many days with no bowel movement, strain hard, hard stool followed by loose stool. The way I broke the cycle is to really increase my fiber intake, eating lots vegetables and fruits plus drink sufficient water.

Not to be forgotten is the need to go immediately to the toilet the moment you sense something in your rectum or you get the urge to defecate. Try your best not to postpone going to the toilet.

Then slowly my bowel movement began to become more regular and easy. For months now I no longer suffer from constipation.

Okra: Natural remedy for constipation, acid reflux and others

Here is a very good example of food as medicine. From an email forward:

A guy has been suffering from constipation for the past 20 years and recently from acid reflux. He didn't realize that the treatment could be so simple -- OKRA! (or Lady's Finger). He started eating okra within the last 2 months and since then have never taken medication again. All he did was consume 6 pieces of OKRA everyday.

He's now regular and his blood sugar has dropped from 135 to 98, with his cholesterol and acid reflux also under control. Here are some facts on okra (from the research of Ms. Sylvia Zook, PH.D nutrition), University of Illinois.

Natural Remedy for Constipation - water

Keep yourself well hydrated and you will not get constipation and in fact will probably be able to have bowel movement (pass motion) more than once a day. That is what happened to me.

At a period of time, I was troubled by constipation (having a bowel movement fewer than three times per week. With constipation stools are usually hard, dry, small in size, and difficult to eliminate. Some people who are constipated find it painful to have a bowel movement and often experience straining, bloating, and the sensation of a full bowel.)

I started to drink copious amount of water. I am at home in front of the computer at home most of the time so have access to the toilet at short notices and it is not rare for me to have 3 or more bowel movements a day.

There was a headline at BBC News - Health, Drinking over recommended limit 'raises cancer risks which troubled me. Huh? Drinking too much can cause cancer? But was comforted that the drinking in this case refer not to water but to alcohol.

However, be aware that there is another angle to drinking water - Why is too much water dangerous?. Apparently, drinking too much water can cause water intoxication - the brain swell and cause a headache and going overboard can cause death.

Natural remedy for constipation - water

Yes, lots of water. Not too long ago, I had constipation even though I eat enough fruits and vegetables. Eating oats porridge in the morning which used to produced smooth and easy passage for the stools, didn't work. Neither did eating dried prunes.

I then remembered my sister's words when I expressed wonder at how anyone can pass motion a few times a day when I have problems with even passing motion once in a few days. Drink lots of water, she said. I did that and my constipation is now history.

How I overcame constipation

For past week, I had been suffering constipation even though I had been eating lots of fruits and vegetables. This was how I overcame constipation. I drank a lot of water. I make sure I go to the toilet first thing in the morning. For some reasons, the feces are softer and easier to pass in the morning. I haven't even started on the dried prunes I bought this morning and already passing motion was extremely easy this morning and not only that, I went to the toilet twice this morning.
